1 more week of training.....

So the big race is THIS Sunday!! I can't belive it's finally almost here. This past weekend was full of some last min. training.

Saturday I got lots of running in which I will blog about next.

Sunday morning about 8 of us were suppose to meet at the lakefront to swim, bike and run.

Well it was about 48 degrees and WINDY so only 4 of us showed up. Luckly we brought our bikes b/c the lake was ROUGH and looked like this...

waves were crashing up onto the seawall so needless to say no one was getting in the lake on Sunday. Instead we did a 22 mile bike ride in the terrible wind!

Toinght I swam a mile in the pool, hopefully I'll get one more lake swim in before Sunday.

Yum

Hubig Pie's could possibly be one of the best things ever invented........I love them:)

Hornets VS. Nuggets

Last night I went to the Hornets game with my mom..... they played the Denver Nuggets and ... they lost. We did get some cool cave man faces to wave behind the goal for free throws though!

Pelican Man Duathalon

Yesterday was the Pelican Man Duathalon in Chalmette. It's a 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run. It was good practice for the big race in two weeks.

I did alright. My first run was 14:20, then came the bike. I just have to come to the realization that I am not fast on my bike. There was a terrible head wind on the way out but the way back was nice and fast. My bike plus transtion time was 35:34. All kinds of people passed me on the bike, but I caught a good bit of them in the second run (14:58). My overall time was 1:06:21 so I was happy with that. I came in 14th female and 3rd in my age group winning me a nice gold plastic trophy:)

I think it looks just like me:)

Trying out the Wet Suit

Just a heads up my blogs will most likely be about training from now until the race because well that's about all I'll be doing:)

So yesterday I did a 51 mile ride alone and I felt good. I felt really good on the way out. On the way back I was starting to get ancy to get off of my bike around mile 40ish. But then I got a second wind and wanted to go longer than 51 but I had to get home for a bathroom break. The whole ride took about 3 hrs 20 mins.

This afternoon I met my friends Myrna and Danny out at the lake so we could swim in our wet suits. The water was about 67 degrees and the lake was a bit choppy this afternoon with waves that made it a bit hard to swim. Once we got going it was fine. I've got my fingers crossed for nice calm water and no wind the day of the race. So besides the waves, water being so cloudy you can not see past your hand in front of your face, and the dirt I had to whipe off of my face when I got out it went just fine:) we're going to try it again on Thursday.

Training update

This Sunday will be only 2 weeks until the 1/2 ironman... I am getting nervous!!

Training has not gone as I would have liked do to my stress fracture and then no thanks to getting the flu last month. I know I'll finish but it's a little dissapointing to know I am not where I want to be in my training.

Swimming is good, I have been swimming at least a mile or more once a week, I think I have that part down, except for the wet suit. I got mine in the mail yesterday and I hate it. I don't think I am meant to wear confining clothes and a wet suit is the definition of defining! Hopefully this weekend I'll get to practice swimming in my wet suit in the lake.

Bike- The bike right now is my main concern. 56 miles is just a long time to be on the bike. There will be three places to stop and I plan on stopping at all three. A few weeks ago I did a 50 mile ride alone and I only hope the race is more exciting.... I am really worried about getting a flat tire. Seriously it would prob be faster for me to walk back (w/o shoes since I'll have my biking shoes on) then to try and change it. I went to a class on how to change a tire and it LOOKED easy but it's not so easy in real life.

Run- The run.... well I'm def. not where I wanted to be in the running part. But I'll give it whatever I have left in me and hey at least I can always walk:)
So I think I have everything I need, I need to pick up some more Gu's and power's bar's but other than that bring on APril 5th. I'm ready for this to be over!:)

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations!

This weekend were the annual St. Patrick's day parades. The weather was crappy and it rained off and on all weekend but everyone still went out and had a good time.

Me, Michelle and Mary before we got really wet.

Saturday I watched the Irish Channel Parade on Magazine street. It was tons of fun catching up with some friends I had not seen in a while. The rain didn't stop us from getting flowers from the marchers and tons of beads and cabbage. After the parade the party continued at the block party's at Pete's bar and then Paresols. It was a long long fun day.

Sunday the parades continued on Metairie Road. Our friends Danny and Kristen live a few houses away from the parade so they had everyone over. The weather held out for the parade but the rest of the day was a wash. Luckily they had set up tents in the back yard so everyone could still enjoy the crawfish boil. I think I ate my weight in crawfish, potatoes, corn and brownies:) We caught all kinds of fun stuff like carrots, cabbage etc. the highlight was the green hotdogs one of our friends threw us... disgusting!

Mardi Gras re-cap

O.K. so I 've been slacking , not much has gone on since my last blog except Mardi Gras so I figured I would do a Mardi Gras re-cap...
In short Mardi Gras was great this year, I really did have a good time. Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Thusrday and Friday nights we went to Myrna and Joe's apt for Parades. they have a balcony on St. Charles which is perfect for parade watching.

Saturday we were out by my office all day for Endymion. My mom, dad and Aunt Jan came too, they had a good time line dancing etc. before the parade. They seem to have been confused and thought they were going to an LSU game though.....:)

Sunday was the most fun day of all. Toth and Baccus! Toth passes by Adam's house so everyone came over, parents, family, friends etc. It was such a fun day. Our friend Kevin was riding on a float so we had sticks with pictures of his face on them, those were a big hit!

Then we went to Ashley's house on St. Charles for Baccus that night with my friends. My friend Amanda was in town with her Cup Whore sign. For 8 years she's been holding the sign and we've been blessed with cups! This year I did get nailed in the head with an entire stack though... ouch.

Monday night was Orpheous, the best looking parade in my opinion! We went by Ashley's again and had one more night with the Cup Whore.

Tuesday- Mardi Gras day! I went to the Royal Run in the morning to welcome the King and Queen of Rex then Adam and I rode our bikes down to catch Zulu on St. Charles. We met up with Stacy and George and had a fun afternoon in the quarter.
