Christmas 2008

Christmas 2008 was very good besides the 80 degree weather!

On Christmas Eve I went to mass with my parents and my brother. It was pretty funny when the priest told everyone Santa called him and he wants brownies this year instead of cookies... wonder how many kids made their parents go to the store!

After mass we went to dinner at the Flaming Torch resturant on Octavia St. This was a new thing for us and it worked out great so looks like it might become a new Christmas tradition.

Christmas morning Corey and I went to my parents house to open presents. We all got some good stuff, I got a wet suit(for the ironman), and MP3 player, some clothes etc. After presents we headed to my Nanie's house for a huge lunch.

I headed to MS. to Adam's family's place in the afternoon and had another big meal Christmas night there. Adam gave me a beautiful watch that I love.

We spent the rest of the weekend in Ms. playing with the neices and nephews and hanging out relaxing. Friday night we had a big campfire and roasted Oysters wrapped in bacon and made smores. I also found out I am very good at the board game Sorry!:)

Saturday night I got togther with the girls at Mary's house for a post Chritsmas party. we had a great time trying out Mary's new Wii Fit and drinking lots of wine!

The Beer Mile

ok so this event actually happened last Tuesday but I had not had a chance to Blog about it yet and it's too halarious of an event not to!

So here's how it worked, you show up to Metairie playground with 4 beers of your choice, no lite beer allowed, this is hard core. You have to run 1 mile (4 laps) around the track drinking a beer each lap. The clock is running so you are trying to hurry and if you puke durring the mile you take a penalty lap.

About 75 people showed up for this so we ran in heats according to your predicted finish time. All I have to say is it's a lot harder than it sounds! I finished in 13:40 and I am proud to say I didn't puke until AFTER I finished:)

VRA Christmas Party 2008

Saturday night was the annual Verges Rome Christmas party. It started with a cocktail hour and then dinner at Resturant August in the CBD. Dinner was very excellent.

After dinner we all headed to Fulton Street to check out the Christmas display, but not before Adam tried out Holly's coat.

Fulton Street was very festive decorated with lights and complete with "bubble" snow that fell on us.

After Fulton Street the party continued at Gordon Beirch and then we finished with the hard core people at Harrah's casino. You can say it was a late night and I was pretty worthless Sunday but we had a great time!

SNOWING in New Orleans!!!! 2008

Yeah you read it right!! This morning it actually snowed in New Orleans!! This is only the 3rd time this has happened in my whole life so it's pretty exciting.

It started out sleeting on my way to work this morning and by the time I got to the office it was snowing! Brittany and I went out front to take some pictures, I couldn't even wait long enough to get my coat on....

Then the snow really started comming down. We couldn't resist so we all went in the back parking lot and had a snowball fight:)

O' Christmas Tree

About 6 years ago we started a tradition where when my parents went to buy their Christmas Tree they would pick me up one too. This works great b/c delivery and set up is included in this deal. I know you are thinking this sounds like a one sided deal, but before you start to feel sorry for my parents just know they recieved homemade bread pudding in exchange for the tree this year!

Since I spend most of my time at Adam's house I decided he also needed a tree this year, so $7.50 later here is Adam's tree. Yes it might only be 12" tall, decorated with exactly 10 lights(that run on batteries) but it makes it feel more like Christmas:)

Corporate Cup 5K

The 28th annual Corporate Cup race was this past Sunday. It's a 5k race that benefits the YMCA that consists of teams of 4 co-workers. This year I rounded up 4 teams from my office, mostly walkers but hey I'm not picky. The race starts and finishes in front of the Audubon Zoo, running through Audubon Park. We couldn't have ordered better weather!

Last week I had started increasing my mileage and had ran 6 miles on Friday so I was curious to see how that would impact my race. If anything it helped. I ran 23:02, one of my fastest 5K times and the best part was I felt good the whole time!

I placed 6th in the top 10 Females and there were 452 people total so I was happy with that. As for the teams they didn't do bad either my team came in 6th out of 26 teams in our division and our other three teams placed 13th, 17th and 18th.

There should be more pictures but Adam overslept and didn't show up until after the race.....at least he showed up I guess:)

Turkey Day

Turkey Day was busy this year!!!

The festivities started on Wenesday night with the Superior Grill annual block party. Adam and I met up with Mary, Keri and Hudson. Friends, lots of music and margaritta's = lots of fun.

What lots of music and margaritta's does not = is a good Turkey Day race time. The 101st annual 5 mile Turkey Day race was at City park Thursday morning. They had a crowd of over 2,000 so it was a great turnout. Due to my Wednesday night activites I decided it would be in my best intrest to just run slow and easy, so I ran with my friend Eva from Catch 22 and we finished in 46:00......All I have to say is George is VERY lucky I was hungover.

Adam and I had Thanksgiving lunch at my parents house and then headed to his parents place in MS.

We always have fun when we go here. This weekends activites included, watching football, paddle boat rides, playing with the 6 neices and nephews, playing pool, shooting guns, going for gator rides at night, making a big fire and smores, and fishing; I caught my first fish!

I finshed the Thanksgving weekend off at Pancake-a-looza. One of my friends from Catch 22, Kelly, had the girls over to make pancakes and drink Mimosa's yesterday, we had any topping you could ever want to put on a pancake. Pancakes and Mimosa's for lunch... it doesn't get much better:)

Running and Po-boys

This morning was the Old Man River 5K and 1/2 Marathon at City Park. I am not quite up to 1/2 marathon mileage these days so I just ran the 5k. I felt pretty good during this race (which was a change) but I didn't run as fast as I would have liked. I need to get a little more control on my pacing, I ran 7:24, 7:43, 7:45, :45, for a grand total of 23:40. I did win second in my age group and a cool frosty glass so that was nice.

My friend Mary did her 1st 1/2 marathon, I had been giving her tips and keeping up with her training the past few weeks so I was excited to see her meet her goal of finishing! She did great, I met her at miles 7, 9, 11 and 12 and ran/walked with her a bit at each.

After the race we headed to Po-Boy festival on Oak street. The weather could not have been better! We had the most delicious roast beef po-boy and took in the sights. They had any kind of po-boy you could think of, music and even a second line complete with a brass band and people waving french bread in the air,that was my favorite part!

1st Blog Ever

It seems like these days everyone has one of these Blog things so I thought I would give it a try. I'm not really even sure of the point, I guess to keep friends and family updated . My life isn't always that exciting so I'll try my best to keep this entertaining! Here it goes... my first Blog ever...

I guess I should start this one with a little about me... I'm 29 years old. I live in New Orleans and work at an Architecture Firm as an Interior Designer. I know you're thinking I pick colors all day. Not so much. In fact I don't even remember the last time I picked a color... maybe when I painted my living room this summer? I really do like my job, my boss says he's going to turn me into an architect yet.

Adam is my boyfriend of 3 years. He knows how to make me laugh, and I love being with him. We always have a good time together. Here are some self portriats of Adam by Adam:

Next to Adam my other love is running. I would run all day long if I could, unfortunatley my body doesn't like me running as much as I like to do it.

I have been running with a group of really fast people(much faster than me!) called Catch 22 for the past year and a half.

They are a really great, fun group of people and I have learned so much from them. Slowly I have been getting faster and hope to reach some P.R.'s this year! In April I am registered to compete in my first 1/2 Ironman. That's 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 1/2 marathon. Yes I am scared.
